Episode 122 - Dr Jo Lukins
Sunday Oct 09, 2022
Sunday Oct 09, 2022
Welcome to the first podcast for October and my thanks to Dr Jo Lukins, Director at Dr Jo Lukins Pty Ltd. An amazing conversation melding Jo's views on leadership and considerable experience as a psychologist focusing on peak performance. I paraphrase Jo here - when we see ourselves as a work in progress, when we understand that we always have places to grow and to learn as leaders on our leadership journey is a good place to be and to able to forgive yourself for mistakes or when we don’t get something right is important. Knowing yourself, your values and being introspective are key themes raised in our discussion.

Global Edition Ep #17 - Heather Lowery-Kappes
Sunday Oct 02, 2022
Sunday Oct 02, 2022
Due to technical difficulties this podcast was delayed and I humbly apologise for that. Welcome to the final podcast for September and an amazing guest, let me introduce Heather Lowery-Kappes, CDANZ President, the Career Development Association of New Zealand (CDANZ) President. Heather shared many key learnings and two specific insights resonated for me, (1) making a decision not to do something is as powerful as making a decision to act and (2) leaders need to believe in the tasks/aims of the organisation in which they work.

Global Edition Ep #15 - Brenda Bence
Sunday Sep 25, 2022
Sunday Sep 25, 2022
My guest today is Brenda Bence, President of Brenda Bence International. I asked Brenda to outline what she considers are key leader concerns. The list was concerning but a reflection of the issues critical to leaders. Brenda identified the following issues: (1) uncertainty, (2) geo-political issues, (3) the Great Resignation, (4) both leader and team member burnout, and (5) leadership is becoming personal - leaders must engage with employees who are looking for work to meet their specific needs. Brenda connected these issues by arguing that leaders have no road map to help them engage with these issues.

Episode 120 - Carmel Molloy
Saturday Sep 10, 2022
Saturday Sep 10, 2022
Today's guest is Carmel Molloy, CEO and Co-Founder at NonProfit Alliance (NPA). You will get a clear understanding of Carmel's views on leadership in the way she defines it, 'True leadership is an alignment of personal values and lived purpose to make the world a better place. No matter how big or small that place is, it doesn't matter. It can be a small community, it can be a big world but harnessing your own strengths so that others want to be on the journey with you'. I particularly liked the process of aligning values and purpose - when these are not aligned, to what extent does this undermine the leadership process?

Episode 119 - Mark McCrindle
Monday Aug 22, 2022
Monday Aug 22, 2022
My guest this week is Mark McCrindle, the Founder and Principal at McCrindle Research. The primary focus off the podcast was to discuss the factors that have led to the ‘Great Resignation’. This is not why I reached to Mark, after reading an article where he used the term ‘Great Retention’ I wanted to know more about how these workplace phenomena interacted with leadership.
Mark discussed the great retention as being an alignment of culture, values and purpose and from a leader perspective, being intentional – that is, a triple bottom line framework that includes people, planet and profit. Among many critical insights, Mark outlined what our next generation of workers are looking for: (1) a role with purpose and meaning (2) a place where I can make a difference with my skills (3) social connection, (4) flexibility, (5) seeing the impact they could make.
You can read Mark’s article here: Turning the Great Resignation into the Great Retention
